At the end of last summer, the Czech Republic association called WiFi4Life presented a fundraising campaign on IndieGoGo, for a more specific project. The purpose: to help the homeless who agree to carry with them useful Wi-Fi routers to residents and tourists. In other words, help the poor who are willing to serve the needs of the rich, in a strange mixture accompanying social ascent ... and social exploitation.
"If they prove they can meet schedules, wake up, stay sober, and work eight hours a day, our project will provide the value of a recommendation for their potential employer," explained the project's presentation video.
While fundraising was to provide Wi-Fi routers to six SDF for an initial period of two months, it is ultimately a single homeless WiFi4Life that could equip. In exchange, it receives food, drink (without alcohol), shelter, clothing, pocket money and 5 euros. "It also receives money from the people who use its Wi-Fi", explained Lubos Bolececk. Although access is free, tips are welcome.
To provide wireless access to passersby, the homeless that is marked by a t-shirt Wifi4Life is equipped with a 3G TP-LINK router, which has a battery life of 6 hours. The device emits about 20 meters away, and can accept up to 10 simultaneous connections with a throughput of 1 Mbps. Moreover, the man has a USB charging station it can use to recharge your router or to provide recharging of mobile phones services to people who come to see him.
